It has gone to court. The Institute of Health and Sustainability (ISS) has filed an action in the Federal Court of the 3rd Region against the automakers Toyota, Nissan and Renault and Ibama (the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) amounting to R$ 1 million in compensation for environmental damage. The target of this dispute is the rule dated December 2021, published by Ibama, which extended the deadline for automakers to adapt to the new stage of the environmental legislation by three months. The Control Program for Vehicle Emissions (Proconve) established that automobiles produced from the first day of 2022 had to emit less pollutants than the 2021 models. With the order of Ibama, the deadline was changed.
