The economist and Executive-Director of the Institute for Climate and Society (iCS), Ana Toni, has accepted an invitation from the Minister for the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, to lead the National Secretariat for Climate Change in the coming weeks.
Ana Toni has spent eight years as the head of iCS, an institution exclusively dedicated to the promotion of the climate agenda in Brazil by supporting organizations devoted to the cause. A recognition not only of the work of the executive director and the iCS team, the invitation is also an acknowledgement of the efforts of partners and supporters who operate on increasingly widened frontiers in the pursuit of the Paris Agreement objectives, such as the protection of forests, energy transition, the decarbonization of the economy and climate justice.
The vice-chair of the Deliberative Council of iCS, Rodrigo Fiães, has been appointed as the head of the executive team of the Institute on an interim basis. An economist from PUC-Rio, with a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Rodrigo has worked in several private and public institutions in the areas of finance, economic research and public policies. Since 2014, he has dedicated himself to non-profit organizations.
Ana Toni is an economist and has a PhD in Political Science. She has been involved in projects on social justice and the promotion of public policies and philanthropy. She was the chair of the Board of Greenpeace International (2010-2017), director of the Ford Foundation in Brazil (2003-2011) and of ActionAid Brasil (1998-2002), founder of GIP (Management of Public Interest) and a member of several business councils and institutions from civil society.
The Institute for Climate and Society is a philanthropic organization which supports institutions that aim to strengthen the Brazilian economy, with reduction of inequality, by tackling climate change and promoting sustainable solutions. In addition to financing projects, iCS promotes dialogue between sectors, gathers knowledge and establishes networks of information, intelligence and cooperation in the promotion of the climate agenda.
