The bank has started a partnership with MapBiomas to have information in real time about warnings and reports about deforestation in all the national biomes
The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) has denied 58 loan requests totaling R$ 24.8 million to rural properties with deforestation in 14 states – together, the deforested areas correspond to about 1,300 soccer fields. This is because, since February 9, the BNDES has entered into a partnership with MapBiomas, a grantee platform of iCS that monitors all the Brazilian biomes in real time using high resolution satellites and manages to generate warnings and reports with before and after images of the deforestation. The integration also allows the bank to monitor the indications of deforestation in properties related to already contracted rural credit operations. The Jornal Nacional, of TV Globo, reported on this story in March. Watch it here
