A new tool, developed by Idesam with support from iCS, is the only one to present all the available information with respect to certified carbon credits in the voluntary market

The potential of the forest carbon credits market is enormous, and Brazil has the opportunity to form a large share of this sector. In order to contribute to this agenda, Idesam has created a platform that compiles, uniquely, all the available information with respect to initiatives that generate or could generate forest carbon in the country. The Forest Carbon Panel mapped 139 projects, of which 33 have already issued credits and 96 have some socioenvironmental benefit, all from the voluntary market. In total, 99% of the credits are issued in the Legal Amazon and 90% of the projects are carried out in private areas. According to the initiative, these projects can generate 1.8 billion credits between 2020 and 2050.

The tool only includes the Verra standard credits (one of the largest certifiers in the world) for activities such as avoided deforestation (REDD+), forest restoration and agriculture, which is a section that includes the vast majority of the programs in the country.
