The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy ( ITDP Brazil ), with the support of iCS, has developed the infographic “Electric buses are moving cities,” with advice for municipalities to outline the path to include battery-operated buses in their transport networks. Among the benefits of the system are the non-emission of pollutants, more comfortable and quieter journeys, less maintenance and a more economic lifecycle. The six most important stages are: Planning, for example with the development of operating contracts of up to 10 years to guarantee the quality the of service, establishing a greater competitiveness and alignment with the current environmental legislation; Financing, identifying the existing models for the infrastructure, vehicles and batteries with different financial institutions, banks and other interested investors; Operation, from the monitoring of the buses and of the battery on different routes, considering the conditions of elevation, climate, topographic variation and road priority; Charging, with the standardization of the system equipment to connect to the electric network and the reorganization of the garages to allow better charging; Maintenance, in order to define the activities of each actor involved in the operation, from the operators to the electric energy companies; and Support, with the implementation of management policies for the demand of individual motorized vehicles to encourage the use of public transport.
