Fortaleza has risen in the ranking of best practices in Brazilian urban mobility. Why? A WRI article explains that the capital of Ceará has reduced the number of traffic fatalities by 40%, since 2014 and is close to becoming one of the few cities to achieve the target proposed by the World Health Organization to reduce this indicator by half by 2020. Reducing the speed limit is one of the measures that has produced the most positive impact. WHO recommends a speed limit of 50 km/h in urban areas – and Fortaleza has followed the suggestion in two of the arterial avenues with the most accidents.
