In October and November, iCS is publishing on its social networks a campaign about the water and energy crises and how Brazil should have acted to avoid them, as well as information about what to do in the future. One of the main points is the realization that Brazilians would have saved R$ 17 billion between May 2020 and August 2021 if the government had spent R$ 20 billion to buy cheaper energy (wind, solar and gas-powered thermoelectric plants) and had preserved the hydroelectric reservoirs during the dry period. Because it did not do this, it spent R$ 37 billion hastily buying expensive energy from fuel oil and diesel thermoelectric plants, which are much more polluting and contribute towards global warming.
