A Public Civil Action was filed jointly by the Chico Mendes Committee and the Institute of Amazonian Studies (IEA), after the conservation unit was a target for land grabbing and other crimes in recent years

A crime of omission in the institutional tasks of guaranteeing the integrity of the Chico Mendes Extractive Reserve (Resex). This was the claim of this Public Civil Action filed jointly by the Chico Mendes Committee and the Institute of Amazonian Studies (IEA) that, in December, the Chico Mendes Institute for the Conservation of the Biodiversity (ICMBio) and the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) started to answer in the Federal Court of Acre. With the arrival to the presidency of the Republic of Jair Bolsonaro in 2019 and the consequent dismantling and military equipping of the two bodies, Resex was affected by several environmental crimes, with an emphasis on land grabbing.
