On July 11, the Thematic Network (RT) of Grantmaking held its 4th meeting in São Paulo, with a specific objective: to develop the discussion about institutional support to civil society organizations (CSOs) beyond the simple transfer of financial resources. Silvia David, the Manager of Grants of iCS, represented the Institute during the event. He discussed four cases with practices of institutional strengthening of its grantees – the Lemann Foundation, the Itau Social Foundation, the Movimento Arredondar and the Institute for Climate and Society.

Silvia presented an overview of the work of iCS in its five operating areas: climate policy and outreach, transport, energy, low carbon economy, and land use. Using a resource donated by one of its supporters, the institute implemented the Organization Mapping Tool (OMT), which is a tool that includes 70 questions within 14 subjects to support an institutional mapping.

“We applied the questionnaire with 19 organizations in 2018. Among the 14 subjects, those identified as priorities were mission and strategy, external communication, governance, funding and relationships with donors, human resources, security and organizational culture,” she explained.
