The Climate Observatory (OC) has a new Executive Secretary. While Carlos Rittl, the spokesman of the network for the last six and a half years, has accepted the post of senior fellow at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies in Potsdam, Germany, Marcio Astrini, 46, has arrived to take over the role. He has a degree in public administration and worked at Greenpeace for 13 years, where he coordinated campaigns for the Amazon, the Climate and Public Policies. He was also one of the leaders of the caras-pintadas movement, in 1992, which culminated in the impeachment of Fernando Collor. Since 2019, he has been a member of the OC coordination committee. The urbanist and lawyer Suely Araújo, 57, joins him in the secretariat of the network. She was the president of Ibama from 2016 to 2018 and will be a senior expert on public policies, developing technical analyses and legal opinions. Welcome to you both and the best of luck to Rittl in his new challenge!
