The Chamber of Deputies almost unanimously approved (298 to 2) the bill that creates the National Payment Policy for Environmental Services (PNPSA). It is intended to conserve preservation areas by supporting rural, indigenous and quilombola producers and traditional communities. After being approved as a clean bill by the senate, Bill 5028/19 now proceeds to presidential sanction. There will now be a federal payment program for services, with a focus on actions of maintenance, recovery or improvement of vegetation cover. The text of the bill included contributions from several sectors of society, such as the Brazilian Coalition on Climate, Forests and Agriculture, which is a grantee of iCS.
