The State Council of the Environment of São Paulo (Consema) approved, by 28 votes in favor and two abstentions, the motion against the postponement of the new stages of the Program for the Control of Air Pollution by Motor Vehicles (Proconve). The result was important because Proconve has established, since 2018, a new technology standard of emissions to be adopted by the automotive industry between 2022 and 2023, the Euro 6. Industry members used the pandemic as an argument to postpone the adoption for another three years, but Glaucia Savin, the president of the Environment Committee of OAB-SP and author of the proposal for the motion, said that the pandemic is an excuse.
