Companies that operate in the selling of meat in the Legal Amazon were invited to answer a questionnaire to assess their degree of control over suppliers and deforestation

The second cycle has been launched of the survey by Radar Verde, which is the only independent public indicator with the objective of identifying the origin of the meat sold by the Brazilian meat packing companies and retailers located in the Legal Amazon. The mapped companies have already received the questionnaire and have until August 1 to answer. Accordingly, it will be possible to assess the degree of control they have over their suppliers, in addition to indicating whether any stage of the production cycle has involved deforestation. At the launch event, Ritaumaria Pereira, a researcher from Imazon, spoke about the innovations in the 2023 methodology, such as the identification of the Degree of Exposure to the Risk of Deforestation (for meat packing companies) and the Degree of Public Transparency (for meat packing companies and for retailers).
