A significant effort by civil society organizations, including iCS grantees, such as Arayara, was fundamental so that the 17th round of Tenders for the exploration of oil and natural gas, by the National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels (ANP) became a failure. Only 5 of the 92 blocks on offer were sold in the auction. Among the areas that did not receive bids were the lots close to Fernando de Noronha.

According to experts, exploration in these locations place the marine fauna at risk. Among the nine companies registered in the auction, only two made bids. It was an important victory, because the exploration areas are close to the areas of environmental preservation of the country. Read more here.
