The PlanFrota calculator, which has been developed by IEMA in partnership with SPTrans, allows the simulation of scenarios about how different technological configurations of bus fleets, applied in a public transport network, emit carbon dioxide (CO2) – greenhouse gases linked to global warming – and particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) – which are both pollutants that are harmful to health. This tool is being used by SPTrans and bus operators to plan the renewal of the fleet of the city of São Paulo in order to comply with the targets for the gradual reduction of emissions over 20 years, in accordance with the operating contracts of the São Paulo bus lines and Municipal Law 16802-18.

Furthermore, PlanFrota can be used by civil society to monitor the adoption process of clean buses and to suggest strategies and solutions to help with this challenge.
