The Piauí magazine published an exclusive article about the illegal export of timber from the Amazon. In the back of a New York store, ipê decking is being sold at a very high price. It originated from the south of Pará, in a process that had its investigation terminated without any punishment to the criminals by order of the then Minister of the Environment, Ricardo Salles. Incidentally, he is now under investigation precisely on suspicion of collaborating with an international smuggling scheme of timber from the Amazon.

Through a partnership with the international consortium of investigative journalism, the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) and the Center for Climate Crime Analysis (CCCA), the magazine managed to reconstruct the entire trajectory of a batch of illegally extracted ipê from Pará until it clandestinely reached the store in the Bronx, in New York.
