Launched in São Paulo on July 1, the third product from the series What can ISP do for…?, has the subject of climate change. The publication provides a state of the art discussion on the issues relating to the subject, including important landmarks, relationship with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the challenges involved, and possible paths of action for Private Social Investment (PSI) to contribute.
There are seven indicated paths: (1) incorporation of the subject of climate change transversally to the already existing areas of operation; (2) promotion of innovative initiatives focused on climate issues; (3) development and implementation of financial tools; (4) promotion of sustainable business models; (5) production and dissemination of knowledge; (6) mobilization for the climate cause; and (7) advocacy for climate issues. Each one of these provides examples of actions that could be performed by ISP and illustrative cases that help to give materiality to the paths.
The launch was attended by Ana Toni, from the Institute for Climate and Society; Carlos Rittl, from the Climate Observatory, and Andrew Ferretti, from the Boticário Group Foundation. Among the points raised during the debate were the transversal nature of climate change, and the importance of institutes and foundations that work with the subject to meet and seek solutions together.
About the PSI series [ISP POR]
The project What can Private Social Investment do for…? is an initiative of GIFE. It has the objective to contribute to the extension of the operation of Brazilian PSI in order to diversify and expand its work to other important subjects from the public and contemporary agenda. In this way, it seeks to promote investor engagement on subjects that are largely unexplored in the field, with the objective of reflecting on what are the potential contributions to the various issues.
So far, three publications have been launched from the series – Sustainable Cities, Racial Equity, and Climate change. For each subject, the project includes the following stages: research of content and context; listening to reference speakers; performing a workshop with specialist individuals and organizations; the production of themed videos; and the preparation of a guide. The produced material is available on an online platform: isppor.gife.org.br
