Women have the most critical opinions in relation the quality of the cycle paths in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Belo Horizonte. This is the main conclusion drawn from data collected from the MoveCidade application, which allows users to rate the quality of various aspects of urban mobility, such as trains, cycle paths, subways, buses and shared bicycle stations. Although a minority among users of the app (19% against 81% men), in the evaluations from November 2017 to May 2019, women gave an average score of 6.04 for the cycle paths – in comparison the men rated them 7.26.

Only three of the ten criteria had higher scores among females: safety at crossings, priority to cyclists on the paths and safety in relation to motorized vehicles. This is very different from the results found in the quality of signage, connection with the destination, access to enter and leave the cycle path, cycle stands and parking in the vicinity, quality of the surface, maintenance of the cycle path, and the width of the cycle path.
