The Institute for Energy and Environment (IEMA) organized the “Workshop on Air Pollution” for eight journalists – including representatives from TV Globo, Folha de S. Paulo, O Estado de S. Paulo, Valor Econômico, Veja, and G1. The meeting included lectures by Beatriz Sayuri Oyama, meteorologist, and David Tsai, chemical engineer, who spoke about the relationship between air pollution and global climate change, the importance of monitoring air quality and inventories of atmospheric emissions. A Brazilian panorama of monitoring, how to reduce pollution, and the need for a National Policy of Air Quality, were issues that were also discussed. The participants came away with a positive impression of the workshop, with compliments for its didacticism and the objectivity of the explanations. IEMA intends to organize more training sessions for the technical engagement of more journalists in the near future.
